How Often To Exercise ?

A common concern about the exercise is that if you do not do it nearly every day , you do not get a lot of health benefits

But a new study suggests otherwise , shows a quieter approach to workouts planning can actually be more beneficial than working almost daily

According to a recent article in the New York Times, the study, which was published in exercise and sport science and medicine , brought together 72 women aged sedentary and randomly assigned to one of three groups year
• The first group exercises twice a week - lifting weights once a week and making an endurance type exercise another day.
• The second group exercises four times a week - weight lifting twice and twice the endurance exercise .
• The third group exercises six times a week - weight lifting three times and three times the endurance.

Researchers monitored blood levels of cytokines women , a stress-related substance that is a signal to the nervous system to determine if someone exaggerates things physically. They also measured the evolution of aerobic capacity of women , muscle strength , body fat , mood and energy expenditure during each week.

At the end of the experiment , four weeks :

• All women had gained strength and endurance and shed body fat , although the weight loss is not the point of the study.
• There were almost no differences in fitness gains between groups. Women working twice a week had become so powerful and aerobic as those who worked six days a week.
• There was no discernable difference in cytokine levels between groups.
• The biggest difference is in the level of energy expended per day , in addition to calories used during workouts.

More exercise is not always better

The study found that women exercising four times a week have been spending a lot more overall energy than the other two groups. It burned about 225 extra calories each day. Exercisers twice a week burned about 100 calories more per day . But the group six times per week was expend energy every day less than they were at the beginning of the experiment. In fact there was expending about 200 calories less each day, even if they practiced so hard.

The explanation provided by the researchers is that twice a week and four times a week were so excited that they are engaged in more daily activities such as walking and taking the stairs while the six - week time cut on such activities. Perhaps this is so. In all cases , the basic conclusion of the study is that "less can be more " where exercise is concerned. In a separate visual experience , which was conducted in France , it was found that people are more likely to exercise when it is fun.
